Here you'll find everything you need to explore science and nature from your own home. If you are looking for science activities that are kid-friendly, fun, and easy to do at home, I've got you covered.
Who's am I?
My name is Amy and I'm a life-long lover of anything science. I loved to explore science and nature as a kid, went to Space Camp (twice!), and have been a scientist for three decades. I have a B.S. and Master's degree in Biology, and a Ph.D. in Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences. I am currently a college professor. I had two girls during graduate school and became a Girl Scout Leader to share my love of science and nature with kids. Some of the pages you find here are activities I developed for Girl Scouts. In addition to fun activities, I have also included on this site some fun opportunities to explore more about my particular fields of science, including links to some pretty cool sites I wish I had access to as a kid. If you want to learn more about me, check out my lab website linked below.
Check out this video of me describing my research and how I connect younger students with opportunities in earth & space science.
This beautiful rock is a piece of ancient hydrothermal vent chimney with gorgeous sulfide minerals. This sulfide is from Kama'ehuakanaloa Seamount in Hawai'i. Check out hydrothermal vent science at My Science Life or on my lab website at https://smithastrobiolab.org/.
