Bedtime at our house is usually a challenge, but I have found that the simple act of sitting on the girls' beds and reading a story is quite effective at getting them to settle down. I like to read them stories they can identify with and that encourage them to use their imagination or strengths to change the world. A Mighty Girl has a wonderful selection of STEM books and more for girls. I recommend you check it out if you are interested.
One of my favorite books I have recently discovered is called Charlotte the Scientist is Squished by Camille Andros. It's a great family story about how we can use the scientific method to solve real world problems, and of course the main character is female. It's a lot of fun, and I recently read this book at two different preschools where my youngest daughter attended. For one of these, I also designed an air rocket activity for the kids to try that went along with the story. It was so much fun!
Another one of my favorite books is You Are Stardust by Elin Kelsey. It is a fabulous story of how we are all made up of components of the universe, how we are connected to the sea, and how our bodies change with the seasons. It's fascinating!
My newest favorite book is Under Water, Under Earth by Aleksandra and Danile Mizielinska. It is a two-in-one book that takes you on a wondrous journey through two of my favorite environments - deep into the earth and to the bottom of the ocean!
