Grow your own fungal mycelium!

To grow your own fungal mycelium, you will need these supplies:

SUPPLIES:

A glass jar

Cardboard cut to pieces to fit flat inside the jar

Oyster mushrooms or other type of mushroom

Rubber band

Cheese cloth or tissue paper

PROCEDURE:

1. Soak cardboard shapes in hot water.
2. Tear your mushroom into pieces (the mushroom is a fruiting body that contains fungal spores, or reproductive structures).
3. Assemble the growth chamber by sandwiching wet cardboard and mushroom pieces  until you fill the jar.
4. Place the cheese cloth on top of the jar and secure with a rubber band.
5. Store your experiment in a cool, dry place in the dark for at least one week.
