This is a fun, foolproof, and super easy science experiment I tried for a Girl Scout Home Scientist badge meeting. All you need are multiple colors of m&ms, small cups of water, and 10 minutes!
PROCEDURE:
Choose a rainbow of colors from a bag of m&ms. You will only need one color per cup of water. Place one m&m in each cup of water (fill it about half full) and wait. The candy shell will begin to dissolve and the colors will begin to spread throughout the water. After about 10 minutes, the m will float off the candy shell like magic! The m is made of edible paper and will not readily dissolve, but as the candy shell dissolves, the paper m is released and it will float to the top of the water. Very cool!
