Place 2 strawberries in a ziploc baggie and squish them with your hands. This breaks open the strawberry cells and releases DNA.
Mix together 2 T. dish soap, 1 T. salt, and 1/2 c. water. Add 2 T. to your squished strawberries and squish some more. This breaks down cell membranes and helps get DNA into solution.
Filter your strawberry liquid into a small cup covered with cheese cloth set in place with a rubber band. Remove cheese cloth and throw away.
Using a plastic disposable pipette, remove 2 mL of the strawberry DNA solution and place it into a disposable plastic or glass tube.
Gently add 2 mL rubbing alcohol to the top of the DNA solution. Swirl gently 10x.
Your DNA will become visible at the top of the liquid layer as a white blob. Great job!
